Fayetteville, NC – Students, staff, colleagues and family members of Howard Hall Elementary School Principal Erica Fenner-McAdoo quietly gathered in the school's cafeteria this morning as a representative from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) surprise-announced the long-time educator as the 2024 Wells Fargo Sandhills Region Principal of the Year!
Fenner-McAdoo, who is Cumberland County Schools' 2024 Principal of the Year, was recently selected as the regional winner from nine other principals.
"I am truly honored and happy to represent the county that raised me to be a lifelong learner and to strive for excellence in all that I do," said Fenner-McAdoo. "And, I understand that this distinction comes from the support you [students, staff, colleagues and family members] give me everyday. This [distinction] is not me. This [distinction] is us. So, congratulations to you, too!"
Cumberland County Schools (CCS) Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. shared a few words applauding Fenner-McAdoo's work and recent accomplishment.
"She's a phenomenal educational leader who is innovative, creative and passionate about student success," said Dr. Connelly. "As the 2024 State Superintendent of the Year, one of my responsibilities is to travel around the state and celebrate our fellow educators and she is actually the first person I get to congratulate. My hope is that she will become the State Principal of the Year!"
Fenner-McAdoo will advance to the next level, competing against eight other regional winners for the coveted 2024 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year state title. The selection process involves an interview and the evaluation of her portfolio by a state selection committee.
The Wells Fargo Principal of the Year Award was introduced in1984 to recognize the critical role of the principal in establishing a culture that supports the pursuit and achievement of academic excellence in North Carolina schools.
