Cumberland County Schools and Fayetteville Police Department Partner for Gun Violence Prevention Events
Fayetteville, N.C. – Cumberland County Schools (CCS) and the Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) are hosting a series of community events dedicated to raising awareness about gun violence prevention. These events will showcase "The Crux: Educating Kids About Gun Violence 2," a thought-provoking film by the Fayetteville Police Department that addresses critical issues, including sexting, gun violence, peer pressure and the lasting impact of personal choices.
The district has organized six events across the county, each featuring a two-hour interactive session guided by the Educating Kids About Gun Violence (EKG) team. This team, composed of trained police officers and detectives, will utilize the EKG curriculum to facilitate group discussions on the medical, legal and emotional consequences of gun possession, as well as present positive alternatives.
Events are scheduled from November 2023 through March 2024 and will be held at schools across the county. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a vendor fair, offering families the chance to connect with local community agencies and resources. The main presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. These events are specifically designed for students in grades 6 through 12 and their families to engage in meaningful dialogue about gun violence prevention.
Event Dates:
- Gray’s Creek High: Tuesday, November 28, 2023
