Cumberland County Schools Celebrates Outstanding Achievers with Extra Mile & Committed Community Support Honors
Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is delighted to reveal the awardees of two prestigious honors by acknowledging their remarkable contributions to the school community. Laura Moya, ninth grade assistant principal at Pine Forest High School, has been awarded the Extra Mile Award, while Nick J. Poulos, long-time supporter of CCS and owner of Superior Bakery, is the recipient of the Committed Community Support Award.
Extra Mile Award Recipient
The Extra Mile Award recognizes employees for their consistent high performance and their ability to motivate others towards excellence. Pine Forest High School's Laura Moya has been recognized for her dedication and efforts. Nominated by Pine Forest High School Science teacher Linwood Starling, Moya stands poised to assist and uplift both students and staff, when needed.
Moya is helpful, often finding solutions to problems or redirecting those in need to assistance. She can be seen wearing a smile and sharing a positive message with those around her. "Laura Moya is one of the hardest working and most dedicated assistant principals I have ever had the honor of working with," said Starling. "She is always visible to our students in the hallway, talking to them, encouraging them and just checking on them each day."
Committed Community Support Award Recipient
The Committed Community Support Award is presented to an individual or group for selflessly supporting the school system. Nick J. Poulos, the recipient of the Committed Community Support Award, has shown himself to be more than deserving of this honor.
"Nick has consistently demonstrated strong support for Cumberland County Schools, forging valuable partnerships with multiple schools and departments throughout the years," said CCS Parent Facilitator Betty Hagan. Poulos was asked to help with a short-notice request to help honor grandparents at South View Middle School (SVMS) and he 'stepped up to the plate.' Superior Bakery filled the doughnut order for SVMS and had it available for pick up the morning of the event, which made Grandparents Day 2023 a huge success!
