Welcome to our Customer Newsletter!
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Code Monthly, the e-newsletter for customers of Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement! We're excited to share this new tool with you, with the goal of keeping you informed about new or important issues that impact you.
This month, we review the role of our code enforcement managers (CEMs). I encourage you to take a few minutes to review this newsletter each month. We hope that you find it beneficial, and we welcome your feedback on how we can serve you better.
James N. Bartl, AIA Director, Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement
What is a Code Enforcement Manager (CEM)?
The Code Enforcement Manager (CEM), also known as the Project Manager, was a role created in 2010, when Code Enforcement was reorganized into a team-based service delivery model. This model was designed to improve efficiency and provide our customers with a go-to person on staff at Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement.
The role of a CEM is to help when:
· A customer issue cannot be resolved by plan reviewers or project coordination,
· A customer issue cannot be resolved by staff in the field,
·Customers want help planning for complicated or unique projects or issues to avoid any potential difficulties or problems, or when
·Customers are struggling with process or technical issues and would like one-on-one guidance.
Who is my CEM?
Each project is assigned a CEM specializing in plan review and permitting when the project is in the plan review/permitting phase, and a CEM specializing in inspections when the project moves into the inspections phase. If a project moves back to plan review and permitting for any reason, the project’s plan review and permitting CEM will again be available to the customer, if needed.
How do I contact my CEM?
Your Plan Review & Permitting CEM is listed in the remarks section of the permit documentation; all can be reached by calling 704-336-3837. Plan Review and Permitting CEMs are as follows:
·Residential (RTAC) and small commercial (CTAC) projects: Tim Taylor
·OnSchedule and Express Review projects: Melanie Sellers
·Mega projects: Charles Walker
Your Inspections CEM is listed at the bottom of your permit. Depending on the location of your project site, your project is assigned either to the North or South Inspection Team. Customers may direct inspections questions to the CEM, or, if the issue is trade-specific, the customer may choose to talk directly with the a trade inspections supervisor.
· North Inspections Team: 980-314-3134
-Jeff Griffin, Code Enforcement Manager
- Andrew Herring, Building Inspections Supervisor
- David Rains, Electrical Inspections Supervisor
- Bill Spidel, Plumbing/Mechanical Inspections Supervisor
·South Inspections Team: 980-314-3127
- Gary Mullis, Code Enforcement Manager
- George Rogers, Building/Plumbing Inspections Supervisor
- Steve Pearson, Mechanical Inspections Supervisor
What happens when I call?
During business hours, your call will be answered, or if call volume is high, your message will be quickly returned by one of our Team Coordinators. They will have information on the CEM’s availability and location, and will help to connect you. In some cases, the Team Coordinator may be able to help you resolve the issue on-the-spot.
