Renewal of the North Carolina Construction General Permit (NCG01) is Scheduled for December 1

In order to meet EPA requirements, the State of North Carolina is enacting process changes with the renewal of the NCG01.  Some notable changes include:

  • Permittees will submit an online Notice of Intent (NOI) for the State of NC to obtain a project-specific Certificate of Coverage.  The NOI must be submitted prior to any land-disturbing activity.
  • The state will work with delegated authorities (like the City of Charlotte) to ensure that approved plans meet all applicable state and federal requirements
  • Creation of an additional permit (NCG25) for construction activities that are not subject to the North Carolina Sediment and Pollution Control Act of 1973.  The new permit is identical to the NCGO1 and was created to provide coverage for Federal projects.

For additional information about the extent of changes, please visit the state’s website (https://deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/energy-mineral-land-resources/energy-mineral-land-permits/stormwater-permits/construction-sw) or call Jay Wilson, Erosion Control Administrator, at 704-432-0958.
