2026 RISE Tribal Education Summit: RISE and Shine
The Tribal Student Achievement and Relations Unit, in partnership with the RISE Native Youth Leadership Group, is pleased to host the 2026 RISE Tribal Education Summit, April 27-29. This year's Summit will be held at Montana State University-Bozeman and is expected to bring 250 students, educators, and Knowledge Keepers together to collaborate and celebrate student excellence. This yearly event is co-planned with students participating in RISE and serves as an opportunity to support students as leaders in their schools and communities by leveraging the Indigenous knowledge and values that persist today.
All students in grades 7-12 are welcome to attend, but space is limited. Please contact Michele Henson for more information and to register.
Culture and Language Updates
We are eagerly looking forward to the Montana Early Childhood Tribal Language Summit-May 26-28 MSU Bozeman. MSU has been a tremendous partner and continues to support our efforts to offer Indian Education for All opportunities. All educators are welcome to attend and learn about language and culture resources that may support your curriculums and programs.
Another outstanding demonstrator of commitment to IEFA instruction is Billings Public Schools. Here is a video resource featuring Billings educators in collaboration with OPI
ML/EL Educator Spotlight-Billings District
As we continue to build the language and culture resource base in classrooms across the state, we hope students who have been engaging in language learning have the opportunity to apply for the Montana Seal of Biliteracy. Please submit application and documentation of qualifying scores to the Board of Public Education no later than May 1st
Lastly, as powwow season kicks off, we are encouraged by the number of youth celebrations hosted by school districts and we hope to see everyone on the powwow trail!
