HELENA, Mont.— Superintendent of Public Instruction Susie Hedalen announced today that Ms. Makenna  Monroe from Stevensville High School and Ms. Cecelia Spencer from Hellgate High School have been selected to represent Montana in the 2026 United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), a highly competitive national leadership program sponsored by the U.S. Senate.

The students were chosen for their academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to public service. Ms. Ellie Smiley Langaunet from Frenchtown High School and Mr. Axel Riggs Butler from Gallatin High School were also named as alternates.

I am incredibly proud of these students and their outstanding achievements,” said Superintendent Hedalen. “The United States Senate Youth Program is a remarkable opportunity that helps develop the next generation of civic leaders.”

USSYP selects only two students from each state to participate in an immersive program focused on federal government and public leadership.
