The concept of creating conditions emphasizes proactive efforts to shape circumstances in order to facilitate a desired outcome. The Creating Conditions podcast is committed to exploring and spotlighting innovative and successful methods to support Montana students from a distinctly indigenous lens. This podcast, brought to you by the American Indian Student Achievement team at the Montana Office of Public Instruction, aims to provide educators with approaches to create learning spaces that foster academic achievement and holistic support for Montana’s American Indian students, and all students.
We want to hear from you! If you have an example of a successful strategy that you would like to share with our team and feature on our podcast, please reach out. Through this podcast we also hope to feature the amazing work currently taking place across the state.
Our team believes all Montanans stand to benefit from the Indigenous Knowledge that persists today. No matter where you work, or what populations of students you serve, we invite you to explore our podcast because all students attend school as whole people and whole learners.
For more information, or to share your story in working to support American Indian students, please reach out to Crystal Hickman (crystal.hickman@mt.gov) or Michele Henson (michele.henson@mt.gov). And to access the podcast please visit: https://creatingconditions.podbean.com/
The Montana School Counselor Association is currently seeking feedback on a survey open through December 12, 2025. This survey seeks to gather information on school counselor responsibilities, challenges, and needs. To-date, few school counselors who work with American Indian students have responded. If you, or someone you know, works with American Indian students in a counseling role, please consider taking this important survey so those who work with Montana’s tribal populations are represented.
All survey takers receive a $5 gift card and are included into a drawing for other prizes.
For more information and to complete the survey, please visit the Montana School Counselor Associations website or use the QR code below.
