Traffic Education Reimbursement 2025
Approved traffic education programs in the Montana public school districts can submit for reimbursement through their Year End Reports. Schools can claim eligible students who complete at least 50% of the classroom and behind-the-wheel portions. The reimbursement amounts vary annually based upon available funds and the number of eligible students.
The 2025 fiscal year reimbursement came to $153.55 per student. The full district and county reports can be found here. Previous year information can be accessed through the GEMS system under School Programs.

Traffic Education Teacher Approval & Renewal
Traffic education approval to teach must be renewed each time your Montana educator license expires. This can be done by submitting the electronic TE05 Form. Be sure to submit your form after renewing your educator license through OPI Licensure. If you have not completed your endorsement, four credits must be earned every five years until you reach the required 20 credits. Educator licensure is due by June 30th and traffic education teacher approval is due by October 1st. If you have questions about your credits or how many you need to renew, reach out to the OPI Traffic Education team or MSU-Northern for a copy of your transcript.
