Summer Food Service Program 2025
MT OPI is gearing up for the 2025 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) season! The SFSP is operated by local non-profits and schools that distribute and serve free meals over the summer to all children 18 and under. Applications to operate the SFSP this year are open in MAPS from now until May 16th. Montana Sponsors will again have the option of operating rural non-congregate sites at eligible locations. Please attend our Wednesday Webinar on April 16th at 2:00 pm for more information on the SFSP and helpful tips to filling out your application. This webinar will be recorded and uploaded to our website.
Required annual training modules are ready for new and returning sponsors; use access code mt-406 to complete the modules. Training must be completed before an application can be approved. SFSP site area eligibility may be determined using this map provided by the USDA.
Check out our Summer Food Service Program website for additional resources and information. If you have any questions, please contact your regional specialist or our Summer Food Service Program Specialist, Sarah Kuhn at sarah.kuhn2@mt.gov or (406) 594-9747.

USDA Foods Shipping Costs
The OPI School Nutrition Programs attempted to secure funding to continue to cover the increased shipping cost that exceeds the State Match funding for USDA food deliveries this school year as we have in past years.
We are sorry, but we do not have the funding to cover the expense this year.
Please be advised that SFAs will be invoiced in the spring for the cost per case for shipping that exceeds the State Match funding for the 2024-25 school year.
If you have questions, please contact Erin Benson at erin.benson@mt.gov or Christine Emerson at cemerson@mt.gov
