Math
December’s volume of the MT Math Minute is live and ready to view! Each month, our Math Coordinator compiles relevant features, classroom resources, IEFA implementation ideas, and sometimes, teacher spotlights! This month’s edition covers IEFA integration ideas and resources for grades K-12 organized by concept, digging deeper in proposed mathematical practice standard #2, a highlighted new book called Daphne Draws Data, student contest announcements, grant opportunities and more classroom resources!
Our Math Coordinator has been developing a series of resources designed for educators to delve into new mathematical practices. Each video will focus on one practice standard, highlighting the key differences between the 2011 and 2026 math practice standards. We will define student behaviors that exemplify each practice and provide clarity on effective learning tasks and teaching strategies that foster engagement with these practices. Two episodes are now available and each comes with an accompanying facilitator guide to help you explore how to leverage these for professional learning. New episodes of the series will be released monthly on the Mathematics Revision page.

STUDENT CONTEST OPPORTUNITY!
The MCTM math contest is looking for students to create a fabulous design for an award sticker. Here are the parameters:
- The sticker must be 3"x 3"
- Any design form (digital, drawing, painting, etc) is welcome as long as it fits into the 3x3 dimensions.
- It can be square or round.
- It needs to celebrate the math contest and the mathematicians who compete in it.
- We'll add a specific color border to designate which level the award is. Keep that in mind in terms of design.
MCTM’s Mission: To encourage and celebrate young mathematicians in our state, the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics sponsors regional math contests where students can challenge themselves in content knowledge, application, and collaboration with their peers.
