MVD/CDTP Update
I would like to introduce myself to those who don't know. My name is Kurtis Robbins, and I am the MVD Area Manager for the Butte and Helena Areas.
The reason I am reaching out to you all today is to hopefully straighten out some confusion that I have been seeing from the field. The Driver's Ed process can get messy pretty fast if we are not all on the same page.
I would like to preface this with my gratitude for all that your instructors do to help these kiddos get on the road as legal drivers. The instructors that I have already had the pleasure of being in contact with have been accommodating and flexible in any corrections or inquiries I have had for them. It is my main goal to strengthen the relationship and teamwork between the MVD and my area's Driver's Ed Instructors so that we can make this process smooth and seem less for all involved. Please always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns moving forward.
I have attached a short cheat sheet that goes over some of the most common mistakes we see on our end. There are certain regulations and business processes that my staff and I can not waiver on, or bend to extenuating circumstances. Hopefully, the cheat sheet can help alleviate any confusion.
The most common errors we have seen recently are Incomplete Applications, misinformation on wait periods and age requirements, and missing CDTP Road Test Results indicating if the student is waived or not.
Please go through the cheat sheet and let me know if you have any questions or confusion that I can clear up. If you know of anyone who may benefit from the information, please forward this to them.
Again, thank you all for doing what you do. I can honestly say that I gave my Driver's Ed instructor a few white-knuckle moments having to slam on the "oh poop" passenger side brakes during my day, and I bet you all have had more than enough of the same experiences. I have a lot of respect for you and just teachers in general. I know you all go through a lot, and I want to make this a stress-free process. Hopefully, this helps!
Thanks,
Kurtis Robbins
