The National Association for Gifted Children's main conference is in Seattle in 2024. With over 2000 participants, it is the biggest gathering featuring Gifted Education in the U.S. Conference attendance is one way to use your GT grant funds for this school year.

Montana Digital Academy has many courses, including AP and dual credit courses, which can supplement your services for advanced students. Middle school offerings include core classes, world languages, and several electives which might be an option for acceleration. (Work with the high school you feed into.) High school dual credit courses are free and may help provide access to meaningful rigor in smaller schools with limited offerings. MTDA also houses original credit classes and FlexCap, a proficiency-based semester course program that offers students and schools a flexible, asynchronous, online course option that is built to Montana state standards.

Coordinator's Corner
There is STRONG EVIDENCE that a growth mindset can improve student achievement in multiple areas. Consider adding mindset instruction into your social or behavioral work with (often perfectionist) gifted students. The book A Mindset for Learning is a good place to start for younger children.

If you are a new coordinator, GT program lead, or GT teacher in your building or district (within the past 5 years), please email Jenny Jarvis, OPI GT Program Support Specialist, with your contact information. OPI can provide GT program support, professional development, and technical assistance for you, the teachers at your school, your administration, and your school board.

We would love for all GT coordinators and teachers to take the Hub course Introduction to Gifted Students. However, please be patient as we identify and fix some technical snafus. The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) recently changed website platforms and many Hub course links to their great content are no longer functional. Let us know if you encounter any issues as you work through the material.

Did you know that the OPI has a wealth of information about and tools for Gifted Education on its website? You can learn about legislation, programming, funding, and much more. There is even a link to a full Gifted Education Training Site filled with helpful resources to make your program for gifted and advanced learners the best is can be! Find the GT section on the OPI website by going to the Educators tab, then Teaching and Learning, then Gifted, Talented, & AP. Be sure to check out the Advanced Learning Plan on the website (link below as well) for a simple way to organize services for individual students identified as gifted and talented.
