The MAST assessment will operationalize as the statewide assessment for grades 3-8 in math and ELA in SY 2024-2025. This innovative assessment offers flexibility in test administration, delivers timely feedback on student learning to enhance instructional utility, and assesses students more closely to when learning occurs. In addition to its instructional utility, the MAST assessment will satisfy federal testing requirements.

Schedule MAST Math Testlets: Districts and schools will have the flexibility to align their MAST math testlets with the district’s unique scope and sequence. The order of ELA testlets will remain consistent across all districts, as determined by the ELA testlet design, with complexity increasing throughout the school year. The MAST Math Scheduler tool closes on September 20, 2024. Any districts with incomplete scheduling will receive bi-weekly notices from the OPI Assessment Team starting September 3. Resources are available in the Scheduler Tool section of the MAST Portal.
Prepare student testing devices. Install guides are available on the MAST Portal.
User Management: District ARs and STCs have access to the Kite Educator Portal with the District Test Coordinator (DTC) role. If you cannot find the activation email in your primary inbox, please check your junk/spam folders. Districts/Schools create and maintain user accounts within the Kite Platform. When adding teacher roles, ensure the Educator Identifier Number is unique. Use a distinct and recognizable value, such as the educator’s SEID number or district email address, for this field.
Roster Students: Roster students by September 30, 2024, in preparation for the first testing window scheduled to open on October 14, 2024. Rostering should be continually updated to reflect student mobility within the district.
Entering Student PNPs: Enter students' PNPs by September 30, 2024, in preparation for the first testing window scheduled to open on October 14, 2024. Adding/modifying student PNPs should be continually updated to reflect changes to students' IEPs, 504s, and/or educational plans throughout the year. Add PNPs for qualifying students as they transfer into the district. An Accommodations & Accessibility Crosswalk document is available to help translate Smarter Balanced accommodations into MAST PNPs.

Professional learning opportunities are planned to support Montana’s districts and are posted on the MAST Portal. These opportunities will encompass in-person sessions, live virtual events, and asynchronous learning modules.
Join us for our second virtual Fall MAST Summit taking place on September 5, 2024, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This event is tailored to offer technical and instructional support for Montana school personnel involved in grades 3-8 assessments. This event will support and provide guidance in preparing for the statewide implementation of MAST in the 2024-2025 school year.
