Program operators are not required to make any changes to their menus as a result of this rulemaking until school year 2025-2026 at the earliest.
Summary of Provisions in the Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent With the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans Final Rule On April 25, 2024, USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) published the final rule titled, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent With the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which is the next step in continuing the science-based improvement of school meals and other USDA Child Nutrition Programs (CNP), as well as advancing USDA’s commitment to nutrition security. The changes are based on a comprehensive review of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, robust stakeholder input on the CNP meal patterns, and lessons learned from prior rulemaking. While this rulemaking is effective July 1, 2024, USDA is gradually phasing in required changes over time.
Newly released! 2024 Summer Food Service Program Administration Guide
FNS is pleased to announce the release of the 2024 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Administration Guide. The guide reflects policy updates to the SFSP since its last release in 2016, including policy updates made through the interim final rulemaking, Establishing the Summer EBT Program and Rural Non-congregate Option in the Summer Meal Programs (88 FR 90230) [fns.usda.gov]. The content is structured in units focused on participating, applying, administering, and operating the meal service in the SFSP, and is catered to those operating the Program, mainly State agencies and sponsors.
The entire guide may be accessed on the FNS Webpage, at SFSP Administration Guide [fns.usda.gov]. Program operators should direct any questions concerning this guidance to their State agency. State agencies with questions should contact the appropriate FNS Regional Office.

SY 2024-2025 MAPS Application Packets are now available; please complete by June 30th
April 1st CEP ISP Data – The annual Identified Student Percent (ISP) DCA snapshot data has been captured to determine CEP qualifications for the upcoming school year. The April 1, 2024, CEP eligibility data includes the new lowered minimum threshold of 25% to participate. District’s can review this information in the SY 2023-2024 MAPS Application menu under the form titled Community Eligibility Provision. Report corrections or additions (private non-accredited schools) to this data by April 15th. Districts wanting to sign up for CEP must complete the SY 2024-2025 MAPS Application Packet and CEP Schedule by June 30th. Claims for Reimbursement select the 2023-2024 Program Year to submit claims for the remainder of the current school year. Locate the Program Year selection in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen. MAPS will now default to the new school year. Claims are due on the 10th of each month.
