Schedule 2024-2025 Student Vaping Prevention Presentations Now
It seems like the older we get, the faster each school year whizzes by. We hope you're all winding down and ready to enjoy a healthy, rejuvenating summer, however you choose to spend it. In the meantime, it's not too early to schedule student vaping prevention presentations for your school. Now that we have two tobacco prevention instructional coordinators, we can cover twice as many schools. We offer presentations geared for 4-5th grade, 6-8th grade, and high school. The sessions are about 40 minutes long and they seem to be most effective with classroom-sized audiences. You can inquire about scheduling presentations for the 2024-25 school year here. Our goal is to help your students make informed decisions not to use any kind of tobacco/nicotine product and to provide information about quitting resources to those who do.
Contact Kris Minard or Dr. Beth Dominicis for more information.
If you're attending OPI's Summer Institute at MSU in Bozeman this summer, we hope you'll plan on attending the Lunch and Learn Student Vaping: What To Do When Prevention Didn't Prevent with Dr. Beth Dominicis on Thursday June 20th. In this session, Dr. Beth will share resources available to Montana schools to educate students in grades 4-12 about the harms of vaping. Alternatives to suspension that align with restorative discipline practices will be shared as well as new resources designed to help students handle nicotine withdrawal and hopefully decide to quit vaping when their devices are no longer available. Come and learn about how we can all support our students in a world where there are strong forces at work to addict them to nicotine. Thursday's Lunch and Learn Objectives: 1. Learn about tobacco prevention resources available to Montana schools. 2. Reinforce the concept that out-of-school suspension is not an effective prevention mechanism or behavior-changing response to student tobacco use. 3. Become familiar with alternatives to suspension related to tobacco use in schools.
Check out the OPI Summer Insitute agenda and register here or contact Dr. Beth Dominicis for more information.
