Standards Revision Updates:

The ELA Standards Revision moves from the Research and Review phase into the Revision Phase in April of 2024. Some recent updates include:
- Superintendent Arntzen approves invitations for the first round of ELA Standards Revision Task Force Members from the applicant pool.
- The Regional Educational Laboratory NW 7 at WestEd, a branch of the US Department of Education’s Institute for Educational Sciences, completed and approved the research briefs.
- The OPI hosted an internal review of the research briefs and process for working with the research that will inform and guide the work of the ELA Standards Revision Task Force.

World Languages
- The Economic Impact Survey for the World Languages Standards has been re-sent to districts for review and comment.
- The superintendent’s recommendation of the new proposed standards to the Board of Public Education is scheduled for the May 2024 board meeting.
- Public comments for the proposed standards can be found on the World Languages Standards Website.
- Planning for Professional Learning and Guidance Documents for new standards is underway!

Reading Early Literacy
Here you can find all the work being done to support the implementation of early literacy-targeted interventions made possible through HB352 and Montana Code Annotated (MCA) Title 20, Chapter 7, Part 18.

If looking for professional learning to support staff in the instruction of ELTI programs, please share with them the free and self-paced Foundational Literacy series found on the Teacher Learning HUB. These include concepts of print, phonological awareness, phonics and word recognition, and fluency.

EDReady Innovation Runs Through It Symposium
You are invited to join your colleagues and other education innovators for “Innovation Runs Through It,” an education symposium that brings together the best minds in innovative education practices. Our 2nd annual three-day event will be from July 16-18, 2024, at the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education on the University of Montana campus in Missoula, Montana, is designed to inspire and equip educators with the tools and techniques they need to drive innovation in their schools and classrooms.

Professional Learning Provider News
The Professional Learning Team continues to transition our language and documents from "Renewal Units" (RUs) to "Professional Development Units" (PDUs) in alignment with the new Administrative Rules of Montana Chapter 57, 10.57.216 APPROVED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RENEWAL ACTIVITY.
The former Renewal Unit Provider System (RUPS) has successfully transitioned to the Professional Development Provider System (PDUPS), and we are in the process of updating documents, webpages, and systems to reflect the change.
Notably, Renewal Unit Certificates, or RUs, have been transitioned to Professional Development Unit Certificates (PDUs). The certificates remain the same and certificates that bear the term "Renewal Units" will still be valid for educator license renewal.
