Language and Culture
Happy April!
The Apsáalooke terms one could use for this time of year might be: Bilítaachiia Iishoopé (á)- Spring,
suuwassée-first thunder, ammaaappúua (úu)-the time of year when they dig roots, or
bíawaksaanxalaahachke (a) the time in spring with long rains.
Our Tribal Student Achievement and Relations team has been hard at winding down from an amazing IEFA conference and gearing up for our RISE Youth Summit in Missoula, April 3-5. We have some amazing speakers and activities in line and schools from across the state set to attend.
We have also been hosting language and culture webinars featuring a variety of indigenous language speakers. Our next meeting will be April 9, 4-5pm: https://mt-gov.zoom.us/j/89786344124?pwd=ak5QRGR4MWtoQUtNdnYwMm0wMk16dz09
Our team is also working in collaborations with a variety of indigenous knowledge keepers to craft and record resources highlighting language and culture in audio and visual formats. Stay tuned!
