Get your story writing skills ready!
The Montana History Portal is hosting its 4th Annual Historical Picture Prompt contest. Using any photo in the Portal collection as a story prompt, participants will write a fictional short story (650 words or less) and enter through their Submission Form. Winners will be chosen from grades 3-6, grades 7-12, and adults. The deadline to enter is February 23, 2024.
Where to begin? Browse the photo collection to find an interesting photo. Once you've found an image save the link to that image—you'll need it when submitting your story.
They will be announcing great prizes for this contest soon, and very much hope you will participate and spread the word.
Looking for hints on how to find photos on specific topics? I provided instructions on how to narrow searches on the Montana Memory Portal here.

Professional Learning Provider News
The Professional Learning Team continues to transition our language and documents from "Renewal Units" (RUs) to "Professional Development Units" (PDUs) in alignment with the new Administrative Rules of Montana Chapter 57, 10.57.216 APPROVED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RENEWAL ACTIVITY.
The former Renewal Unit Provider System (RUPS) has successfully transitioned to the Professional Development Provider System (PDUPS), and we are in the process of updating documents, webpages, and systems to reflect the change.
Notably, Renewal Unit Certificates, or RUs, have been transitioned to Professional Development Unit Certificates (PDUs). The certificates remain the same and certificates that bear the term "Renewal Units" will still be valid for educator license renewal.
Please contact the Professional Learning Team at OPIDUPS@mt.gov with any questions.
