Having opportunities to train students in different aspects of leadership while exposing them to different facets of industry is so important for our emerging workforce. This conference did just that! During this conference in Eastern Montana students planned, implemented, and completed general sessions. Planned community service projects, worked on fundraiser ideas, went over the process of officer elections. They were introduced to the process and importance newspaper articles & social media, talked at length about technical standards and Montana contests & competitions. They also looked at how business and industry can work with their chapters.

Then the group had the opportunity to learn from the CDL Program Coordinator through the Miles City Community College. During this tour/training students were able to immerse themselves in the VR version of Semi Truck driving as well as learning the pre check process to get your CDL.
|
During the Conference Students and advisors also took an in depth tour of Transco a Railway Expertise Company. They are a first-rate railcar services company who offer service on time, every time. They perform high-volume contract business involving a variety of services for their customers’ entire fleet of railcars. Including Freight & tank car maintenance, Expert consultation as well as Parts fabrication.
This tour gave students and advisors a up close and personal experience of the railcar industry, it was a fantastic tour and I would encourage any Industrial Tech Teacher in the area to reach out to Transco for a tour, they were very interested in getting young adults involved in their program.

Throughout Fall Leadership Students learned all the necessary elements to have a successful chapter through the National Program of Work (POW). Students and Advisors had many opportunities to network and interact with students/advisors from other towns. This conference was open to state and local officers, advisors and students who want to become better leaders.

It gave advisors a chance to learn from each other as well as the many contacts that came to present quality information to the group. This was a Process Driven Conference which means in its purpose it was designed to give attendees the tools to take back to their own schools and chapters to excel at implementing SkillsUSA within their community.
|
I would highly recommend this conference to any advisor and students for next fall!
