The New CTE Professionals Hybrid Workshop 2023 offers early-career professionals—those new to the classroom, as well as those with five years or less of experience—the ability to develop essential knowledge and skills for success in the classroom and in the Career & Technical Education teaching profession. Individuals who have participated in the past are also invited to participate again. Local administrators, counselors, and CTE coordinators are also invited to participate to learn more about CTE in Montana. Participants will also discover leadership and professional growth opportunities available for themselves and their students.
The workshop is designed to focus on fundamentals of Career & Technical Education, federal and state funding programs, professional organizations, curriculum resources, program standards and guidelines, marketing career and technical education, advising Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), and advanced learning opportunities for CTE students through dual enrollment and work-based learning. Workshop attendees are strongly encouraged to participate in all sessions. The virtual sessions listed below will include smaller breakout groups to allow for conversations.

During the breakouts of the ACTE Conference MITEA members had the opportunity to tour the AFFCO- Anaconda Foundry Fabrication Company. At the foot of the Pintlar Range of the Rocky Mountains, in the heart of historic Montana mining country, a tradition of excellence continues. The Tuttle Manufacturing Company opened its factory in the 1880's. Later it was taken over by Copper King, Marcus Daly and his Anaconda Copper Company. Today, it's AFFCO, a proud company, marrying the artistry of days gone by with modern and innovative technological processes. |

AFFCO has grown over the years to a company of extraordinary diversity. All, in the singular effort of providing its resource based customers with an incomparable variety of manufactured products and services. Products and services of uncommon quality and workmanship. AFFCO is proud of its heritage and committed to the future.
AFFCO Took the MITEA Teachers on a tour of their facilities and the employees explained different processes and techniques used in their industry. It was a fantastic learning experience for our teachers. A big Shout out to AFFCO for hosting our group. Click to edit this placeholder text.

MT Family & Consumer Sciences Pilots Culinary Simulations
Recently MT Family & Consumer Sciences classrooms have partnered with Advance Learning Labs to pilot test three culinary simulations. These simulations supplement the learning in the food related and culinary classes by introducing economic and business concepts with food applications. Ranging from starting a pop up business and running a snack stand, to rescuing a restaurant on the verge of closing, these simulations directly align with the FCS content related to the culinary and food industries. FCS programs who are interested in being a pilot this Fall/Spring should contact Gayla Randel at gayla.randel@mt.gov.
Early Childhood Pathways and School-Based Centers
Recent multi-agency conversations have taken a stronger look at how schools can help address the severe early childhood care shortages across Montana. Gayla Randel, OPI Family and Consumer Sciences Specialist is part of a new Early Childhood Collaborative which is bringing representatives from Dept of Labor, DPHHS, and post-secondary together with secondary level representatives to discuss how schools can expand their services to the community by adding to or expanding early childhood services. School-based centers have several benefits including the meeting of quality care for community members and staff members, but also to serve as a training location for Family & Consume Sciences students in an early childhood pathway. These students can serve as part of the workforce through their Perkins recognized pathway program of study and pre-apprenticeship. This interaction has the potential of earning dual credit and the school has several funding streams that can be used to support this effort. A toolkit is being developed to assist schools with this effort. For more information, contact Gayla Randel at gayla.randel@mt.gov or call 406-431-2117.
