Individuals who have participated in the past are also invited to participate again. Local administrators, counselors, and CTE coordinators are also invited to participate to learn more about CTE in Montana. Participants will also discover leadership and professional growth opportunities available for themselves and their students.
The workshop is designed to focus on fundamentals of Career & Technical Education, federal and state funding programs, professional organizations, curriculum resources, program standards and guidelines, marketing career and technical education, advising Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), and advanced learning opportunities for CTE students through dual enrollment and work-based learning. FCS Drive-In Workshops
This October, Fall Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Drive-In Workshops will be held on October 4 (in Miles City) and October 6 (in Helena). These one-day events will serve to provide technical assistance and to share updates related to FCS Pathways, a breakdown of data for use in program planning, and taking an in-depth look at funding streams and program supports. The events are a repeat of information to allow eastern and western FCS teachers to "drive-in" and home the same day. Register here (before October 1st): https://forms.gle/JHobQPgkiLFqxZvm6
Montana Childcare Business Summit and FCS Programs Support Quality Care
Gayla Randel, OPI Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Specialist recently attended the inaugural Montana Childcare Business Summit on September 13-14 to learn more about the business and support for this industry. Sponsored by Zero to Five Montana, this event addressed the need to support the providers we have in Montana and to expand services as many areas have a childcare crisis. Family & Consumer Sciences Education programs offer foundational understanding and technical training in early childhood, with a pathway option through career and technical education. This pathway can begin to address the workforce shortage (one of many industry concerns) by offering high school students’ instruction in child development, providing quality care, and business considerations, as well as practicing childcare skills in collaboration with local centers and/or in-home providers. Another item being explored is a school-based center concept to expand opportunities for quality care in Montana. Randel is part of an Early Childcare Collaborative recently created to establish cross-agency conversations to support schools that wish to have a center within their school system.
