The Montana OPI SPDG Team wants to provide special recognition to three extraordinary educators from Region 1 who have been serving as MTSS District Coordinators piloting training for Montana's Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Grant.
Lisa Fritz (Circle), Valerie Hafele (Glendive), and Lindsay Winn (Bainville) are dedicated to helping their school districts develop strong systems. To date, they have led their District Implementation Teams through an estimated 500 hours of training and action planning for this grant. They work so hard and care so much about improving their schools for their students and their colleagues.
Lisa Fritz is the District MTSS Coordinator for Circle, MT, a small community in North East Montana. Circle has 3 schools with an enrollment of 143 students. When Lisa accepted the role as MTSS Coordinator, she brought background knowledge from her work with Response to Intervention (RTI). With numerous changes in administration during the three years she has been involved in the grant, Lisa has stepped up to lead Circle in implementing MTSS throughout the district. Lisa is a Title 1 instructor for the Circle School District.
Valerie Hafele is the District Coordinator for Glendive School District, a district of 1,142 students in a rich agricultural area that sits along the eastern edge of the Montana border. Val’s exemplary communication skills and caring nature enable her to build relationships and connections with staff, students and parents. Val has a vision for implementing MTSS in the Glendive district. She understands the benefits of implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports and works tirelessly to lay the foundations that will facilitate change and benefit students. Val is the Director of Special Services for the Glendive District.
Lindsay Winn is the District MTSS Coordinator for Bainville School District, a district of approximately 170 students in the northeast corner of Montana close to the North Dakota border. One of Lindsay’s strengths is her fundamental knowledge and depth of understanding about MTSS. She is constantly looking for ways to systematize practices to make Bainville’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports more efficient and effective. In addition to understanding the fundamentals of a tiered supports framework, Lindsay is adept at adapting practices that improve outcomes for students and staff within a small rural school. Lindsay’s exceptional coaching skills at Bainville have led to her recent hire as a part-time MTSS Coach for the Office of Public Instruction! Lindsay is the Physical Education/Health Instructor for the Bainville School District.
