Superintendent Arntzen, with approval from the MT Board of Public Education is hosting standards revision workshops for Mathematics and World Languages this month in Helena! We are awed and honored by the leadership and expertise of our partner educators who are engaging in this important work that will shape the educational experiences and achievement of our Montana students for years to come!
Fellow educators, parents and community members can find more information about the standards revision processes and materials on the Teacher Learning Hub's Standards Review and Revision Teams Collaborative Space.
Additionally, the application for the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee is now open for all sets of standards revised in 2023 (English Language Proficiency, Mathematics, and World Languages). We encourage interested parties to apply and share widely with their networks. More information including the link to apply for the Negotiated Rulemaking Committees for OPI Standards Revision can be found on the OPI's K-12 Content Standards webpage.
The OPI Standards, Instruction and Professional Learning Team would like to give a special thank you to all our wonderful presenters, workshop leaders, partner organizations, and attendees who made this year's Summer Institute truly meaningful! We are grateful for the connections, high-quality professional learning, and collaborative collegiality among and with Montana educators! Together, we are building better classrooms and schools for our Montana students!

#2 - S’more Info for You!
- We wanted to take a moment to give a huge ‘shout-out’ to the 27,000+ educators in Montana who are utilizing the Teacher Learning Hub for their professional development! Thank You!
- Facilitated courses that have previously been funded through the OPI Teaching and Learning Dept. are no longer able to be offered on the Hub. We are exploring options for potentially bringing these great opportunities back, perhaps by charging a nominal fee per course. There will still be a few facilitated offerings from IEFA, PASS Math and Reading, Science, and some new Administrative courses are in the works for out-of-state certified administrators hoping to gain Montana certification!
- All courses currently on the Hub are now self-paced and auto-graded! Remember that you are still welcome to ask content questions if needed by contacting the facilitator listed on the course homepage, and for tech issues, please use the red Help button. Please also remember that you are still under the same Terms of Use that you agreed to when you created your Hub account. Data will be checked randomly and periodically to make sure course requirements are being met by participants. It is very much an ‘honor’ system and we kindly ask that you complete all work in a professional-worthy manner as has always been the requirement for maintaining an account in good standing on the Teacher Learning Hub. We are honored to bring these high-quality online learning opportunities to you and appreciate your assistance in maintaining the integrity of these no-cost-to-you online learning opportunities!
#3 Teacher Trail Guides Available!
Are you teaching outside your comfort zone, your grade level, perhaps provisionally, maybe under an emergency authorization, or just outside your subject area due to a staffing need? Would you like to connect with a non-evaluative collegial mentor AND get paid for participating? Check out Montana State University's Mentee Information/Application for Enrollment!
MSU is taking applications through 9/2023!
Helpful Hub Tips of the Month:
- Please use your personal email when creating a Hub account!
-
Please continue to save your completion certificates by downloading them until the integration issues with PDUs transferring properly to licensure are resolved. The system is still not working as it should. Updates will be available on our Hub homepage as they become available.

The Professional Learning Team continues to transition our language and documents from "Renewal Units" (RUs) to "Professional Development Units" (PDUs) in alignment with the new Administrative Rules of Montana Chapter 57, 10.57.216 APPROVED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RENEWAL ACTIVITY.
The former Renewal Unit Provider System (RUPS) has successfully transitioned to the Professional Development Provider System (PDUPS) and we are in process of updating documents, webpages, and systems to reflect the change.
Notably, Renewal Unit Certificates, or RUs, have been transitioned to Professional Development Unit Certificates (PDUs). The certificates remain the same and certificates that bear the term "Renewal Units" will still be valid for educator license renewal.
Please contact the Professional Learning Team at OPIDUPS@mt.gov with any questions.
