Gifted and Talented News

Hello Montana Educators!

My name is Kristin Snowden, and I joined the OPI as the Gifted and Talented Program Director this summer. I am also a Program Support Specialist with the Special Education Unit. These dual roles provide a unique opportunity to align resources and services for exceptional students in our state!

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Adam’s State University. I enjoyed more than twenty-one years of service in public education in a variety of roles and multiple diverse settings. I look forward to working alongside the educators in Montana to support the needs of our students.

Hub Courses for Gifted and Talented Professional Learning

We currently have two unique courses focused on learning about our gifted and talented student population on the Learning Hub. Check out “Introduction to Gifted and Talented Students” and “Introduction to Twice Exceptional Students” for more information.

Gifted and Talented Grant 2021-2023

We are in the middle of a two-year match grant cycle for Gifted and Talented. A match grant requires recipients to match the funds provided by the state with funds from their school. We currently have 45 districts in Montana using grant funds to enrich, expand, and enhance learning opportunities for students. The application process for the next grant cycle will begin in Spring 2023. Please take advantage of this opportunity! Check back here in spring for information on the new grant beginning in 2023.
