CTE Fall Data Collection Reminder
11/1/22 -12/31/22 Fall Career and Technical Education
Enter Date Contacted and Post-Program Status for Career and Technical Education (CTE) concentrator students who graduated in the previous spring school year (2021-22). These students should be contacted during the second quarter.
TEAMS Reporting Assistance
The Accreditation and Educator Preparation unit is offering 14 virtual work sessions in September and October to assist with completing the TEAMS report. They are all via Zoom and you do not need to register beforehand. There are 5 sessions intended for new users and 9 sessions for returning users that discuss FY2023 Updates.
There are first-time users and update sessions listed through the month of October.
CTE Course Codes are used to evaluate Montana Career Pathways(MCP) in schools as well as for State CTE funding, it is imperative that this data be accurate to ensure programs are meeting MCP requirements as well as receiving accurate funding. MCP pathways information can be found here...
Along with the TEAMS webinar, the CTE Staff will continue to have Zoom office hours through December to provide technical assistance.
October office hours will be Tuesdays 7:00am - 9:00am, Wednesdays 3:30pm - 5:30pm, and Thursdays 10:30am - 1:00pm
New CTE Professionals Hybrid Workshop 2022
A free professional development event with two virtual sessions and one in-person session.

To participate in the New CTE Professionals Hybrid Workshop 2022, register at bit.ly/NewCTE2022. The links for the Zoom sessions will be sent to the email address submitted via registration. Registrants will receive a packet of materials onsite in Billings on Wednesday, October 19. To be included in the materials count, please submit workshop registration by the end of the day on Monday, September 19, 2022. Please note, materials cannot be guaranteed for registrations received after September 19.
Up to seven (7) OPI Renewal Units will be available. Questions regarding the workshop or registration can be directed to Business Education Special Eric Swenson at eswenson@mt.gov or contact your CTE Program Specialist.

Adult Education and Family Literacy Week (AEFL Week 9/19/22 - 9/23/22)
Celebrating the successes and the collective work done in the field of adult education.
Monday:
Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult Education (AE) Service Providers offer free services to help qualifying individuals to prepare for the HiSET (high school equivalency exam – formerly the GED), postsecondary education or specialized training, and the workforce. These programs provide in-person instruction and distance learning opportunities for adult learners. We strongly encourage you to contact the WIOA Adult Education Provider in your regional area to discuss career and college readiness offerings.
Recently at the AE Program located in Great Falls, (College and Career Readiness Center), there were eleven students that successfully completed the CNA program. Also, five CDL students obtained their permits and are doing behind-the-wheel training. By helping support students with specialized training for healthcare and transportation career fields, this opens opportunities for future well-paying jobs!

Tuesday:
The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) oversees 12 WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana.
During the 2021-2022 academic year, WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana collectively served over 2000 adult learners – ages 16-60+. The largest age group served was 25-44.
Recently at the AE Program located in Helena, (Helena ALC), a student applied for the Jeanette Rankin Scholarship with the assistance of the program. Helena ALC proudly reports that this student will be a recipient of the scholarship and will use it at Helena College. WIOA Adult Education programs help individuals realize their dreams of entering post-secondary education and can help them prepare for future success!

Wednesday:
The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) oversees 12 WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana.
During the 2021-2022 academic year, WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana collectively helped approximately 400 adult learners increase their academic preparedness level and enter postsecondary education or specialized training.
Recently the AE Program located in Missoula, (Lifelong Learning Center), had seven participants enroll in Missoula College for the fall 2022 semester. Two of those individuals arrived in the U.S. as refugees and utilized the adult education program to become successful in the community. WIOA Adult Education Programs help every eligible adult learner succeed!

Thursday:
The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) oversees 12 WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana.
During the 2021-2022 academic year, WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana collectively assisted approximately 500 adult learners prepare for and obtain a high school equivalency diploma (HiSET).
Recently the AE Programs located in Lewistown and Glendive, (HRDC 6 Adult Education and Dawson Community College Adult Education), reported an uptick in HiSET completers. All WIOA Adult Education Programs, large and small, excel at helping prepare adult learners to successfully complete the HiSET. Programs provide both in-person and virtual instruction – which is often tailored to fit the needs of the individual. WIOA Adult Education Programs assist every eligible adult learner succeed in every part of the state!

Friday:
The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) oversees 12 WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana.
During the 2021-2022 academic year, WIOA Adult Education Programs in Montana collectively provided over 700 adult learners with integrated education and training (IET) opportunities aligned with specific career pathways. Some IET program offerings include:
- Flathead Valley – Construction
- Great Falls – CNA, CDL
- Missoula – CNA, Hospitality, Entrepreneurship
- Billings – Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Phlebotomy
- Montana Department of Corrections – Automotive Pre-Apprenticeship
Recently the AE Program located in Kalispell, (FVCC Adult Education), unveiled a virtual reality (VR) construction training option for their students to utilize. VR training helps to train individuals for well-paying jobs in high-demand fields!

Montana FCCLA Attends National Leadership Conference in San Diego, CA
Six of the twelve Wibaux FCCLA members who attended the National Leadership Conference in San Diego, CA were junior high members, all of whom earned the right to attend by placing first or second in their competitions at the Montana State Leadership Conference. At NLC, they competed against other members from across the nation, attended leadership workshops, and got to experience some of the attractions in San Diego.

The team organized a service project, documented it in an extensive binder, and presented it to judges at the State Leadership Conference. Then they made improvements to the projects, based on the judges' scoring rubric, in preparation for the national competition. All competitors gained organizational and computer skills, as well as improved their written and verbal presentation techniques.

What makes an effective CTSO adviser?

It was 2016, and several state administrators in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) were discussing the need to develop additional support for career and technical student organization (CTSO) advisement. What knowledge and skills do a CTSO adviser — specifically Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) — need to be most effective? Conversations had been held informally in the past, but more formal guidance was needed.
“In Idaho, we needed a common document to refer to as we work to support CTSOs Engage. A focus group was created that included FCS state administrators, FCCLA state advisers, teacher educators, and FCCLA. The adviser making FCCLA part of the FCS classroom,” said Theresa Golis, who is FCCLA state adviser as well as FCS program quality manager at the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education. “I quickly learned this wasn’t unique to my state, but rather something that was needed at the national level...”

Montana BPA Update:
This year’s Montana BPA State Officer Team is excited to see you on October 2-3 at Fairmont Hot Springs for FLC! We aim to help you Shine Bright through workshops and speakers we’ve prepared for you. Montana BPA, along with our partnering organizations will start your BPA year out right with engaging workshops and fun activities. These workshops will cover public speaking and leadership, BPA Cares, and Torch Awards, along with our main focus for FLC: financial literacy.
The State Officer Team will also be leading seminars based on where you are on your BPA journey. One seminar will be focused on our Middle-Level members, and introducing them to the BPA family. The other two seminars will be split among our Secondary level members, with one explaining the BPA basics to our underclassmen or new members, and the other about how to maximize your BPA experience for returning members. In addition to offerings for our student members, BPA advisors will also have opportunities to be engaged with members of our business communities.

Registration Now Open for the Fall 2022 Edition of the Big Sky Biz Sim
Montana’s premiere student business simulation is back for the Fall Semester 2022. Registration is open for the Big Sky Biz Sim by First Interstate Bank with registration closing September 21 at 5 p.m.
This is an in-class business simulation where students make all of the operating decisions for their business to produce, sell, and distribute widgets.
The decision inputs are then matched against other teams competing across Montana for the highest stock market price at the end of eight quarters, (weeks in the simulation).
With the new partnership with First Interstate Bank, the game has been streamlined for teachers and modernized to manage against potential remote learning disruptions. The Biz Sim software and game has been in schools in Montana since 2000 with over 28,000 students participating with the support of the Montana State Chamber Foundation.
The Montana Council on Economic Education believes strongly in education through experiential learning. Students who participate will learn teamwork, communication, flexibility, problem-solving, critical thinking, and grit. All skills that will serve students and their future employers. When students experience the ups and downs of their profitability based on their decisions, they not only will be taught the fundamentals of managing a business but set in a competition, the spark of entrepreneurship can be lit.

Stock Market Game Registration for Fall Semester Open Now
Registration is open for teams for the Fall 2022 Stock Market Game which will run from October 3 to December 9, 2022.
Glacier Bancorp and their family of Montana Banks will sponsor all team fees, ($15/team) for all teams with two (2) or more students enrolled, the maximum size is five (5) students per team.
Glacier Bancorp will also provide prize money to the top five (5) winning teams this semester. New this year, there will be two competitions, a high school region and a junior high age region. The top team in each region will receive $500.00.
