New Innovations Coming Your Way!
As most of you are aware, the OPI Licensure division is in the process of installing a new automated system that will streamline the licensure and renewal processes and make it much easier for all! As a piece of this much-needed process, the Teacher Learning Hub system will be able to “talk to” the licensure system via the new automated process. Any renewal units you have completed will automatically be routed into the licensure system and they will be able to see your renewal units earned at a glance. This will ultimately save a number of steps for educators, the Hub, and Licensure. (The RANDA company, a top-notch computer engineering company, is creating the system, so we are looking forward to an excellent and fully functional automated system sometime in June or July.) To make the Hub piece function properly, we will need every licensed teacher’s SEID (Folio) number, which is your public teacher ID number and is located at the bottom of your educator license. It is also the number by which you are identified in the MSEIS system. You will be required to add this information to your Hub account profile information in the SEID textbox that we will be adding to the 23,000 user accounts that currently exist on the Hub so that your license can link up with your renewal units! No license? No problem! You will have an alternative text that you will be asked to type into the required SEID box. We are still working on exactly what we need that to be, but the instructions will be clear when the time comes! What do you need to do now? Nothing. We just want you to be aware of what is coming and to be looking for a pop-up message on the Teacher Learning Hub when you open your account in the not-to-distant future! Please be sure to read our related Helpful Hub Tip of the Month below!
Helpful Hub Tip of the Month: Be Aware! Sometime in May/June, you will see an important pop-up message when you open your account on the Hub! It will direct you to add your SEID (Folio) number to your registration information on your account. If you are a current user, you will just add it by going into your profile and scrolling to the SEID textbox. Please be sure to do so per the instructions and timeline that will be given in the pop-up instructions. If you are brand new to the Hub and just registering an account for the first time, it will now be included as part of any new registration. If you are not a licensed Montana educator, you will still need to fill in the SEID textbox on your registration profile or new account, but it will most likely be an alternative text that will be included in the instructions. Trust that the pop-up will provide all of the information you will need! We are just letting everyone know now, in advance of these automated changes, so that you will know what it is all about when the time comes!
Something to Celebrate! The Hub is now 23,000+ educators strong! Thank you, Montana Educators, for your awesome support of this online professional development ‘beast’! We are proud to serve and share these high-quality no-cost-to-you renewal unit credits, and we look forward to continued collaboration and expansion of the Teacher Learning Hub!

The Teacher Learning Hub Facilitated Course: Preparing Young Writers for Career, College, and Community: June 13-July 15
Enrollment opens May 15 for this six-week facilitated Teacher Learning Hub course designed by National Writing Project affiliate and Columbus, Montana high school teacher Casey Olsen for teachers of grades 4-12. Focused on the specific teaching of argument writing, participants in this module will examine the research and design behind the National Writing Project’s C3WP program as well as the practical and strategic applications for the classroom.
Olsen’s high school students spend part of each semester researching public issues they care about and writing a short op-ed on the issue and presenting evidence. The op-eds have been published in the Stillwater County News, the local paper, and in some cases, have resulted in real community change. One student successfully advocated for a tax increase to fund advanced life support services on ambulances. Casey is a strong advocate for teaching meaningful, student-led argumentative writing projects and his course will provide you with the tools, resources, and pedagogy to be a strong advocate too!
Enrollment opens May 15 for the Preparing Young Writers for C3 course. The session begins June 14 and will run through July 25. Please email ELA Specialist Stephanie Swigart (stephanie.swigart@mt.gov) or Casey Olsen (teachwriting406@gmail.com) with questions.
