School Health Profiles Update
The 2022 Montana School Health Profiles (Profiles) has been completed by Montana school principals and health education teachers. The biennial survey has been conducted by the OPI through a cooperative agreement with the CDC since 1994 and consists of a two-questionnaire system assessing school health policies and practices and health education implementation.
The 2020 Montana Profiles results are available on the School Health Profiles website. Recently released are the CDC's 2018 School Health Profiles results that feature Montana results along with the U.S. and other state comparisons. Click on any one of the concise, topic specific results showing how Montana schools compare with other states regarding: Family Engagement, Health Services for Students with Chronic Conditions, Local Wellness Policies, Nutrition, Physical Education and Physical Activity, Safe and Supportive Environments, School Health Coordination, School Health Education, Sexual Health Education, Sexual Health Services, and Tobacco-Use Prevention.

School Threat Assessment Training
A threat assessment is a violence prevention strategy that aims to (1) identify students who may be planning to commit an act of violence; (2) determine the seriousness of the threat of violence; and (3) intervene to prevent the act from occurring and address the underlying problem or conflict. The Office of Public Instruction is pleased to offer a variety of threat assessment training opportunities for Montana Schools.
Threat Assessment and Intervention Learning Hub Course
The Office of Public Instruction recently launched a new Teacher Learning Hub course dedicated to educating school staff on school violence and the use of threat assessments. The Threat Assessment and Intervention course outlines trends and information on school violence and prevention and the effectiveness of school-based threat assessment and intervention teams to increase school safety and support a safe and connected school climate. This course is worth 3 OPI Renewal Units and is open for enrollment.
Threat Assessment Training from the University of Montana Safe Schools Center

In 2021, nine schools received this training, and we are now able to offer this training to additional schools. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Michele Henson (406-595-1058).
