Western Regional Joint Threat Assessment Training: April 25-27
Montana State University Police Department, in partnership with the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, is holding a Western Regional Joint Threat Assessment Training in Bozeman, April 25-27, 2022. Schools across the state of Montana have implemented a threat assessment process to make schools safer while simultaneously supporting student wellbeing. A threat assessment is a violence prevention strategy that aims to (1) identify students who may be planning to commit an act of violence; (2) determine the seriousness of the threat of violence; and (3) intervene to prevent the act from occurring and address the underlying problem or conflict. Attendees will learn about the threat assessment process from a multidisciplinary group of professionals including law enforcement, school leadership, mental health professionals, and security experts.
The Montana Disaster and Emergency Services of Montana has worked with the training sponsors to offer a discounted rate to attend the training to Montana public employees, including public school employees and law enforcement. Standard registration for this training is $395 but only $75 for Montana Public Employees. For more information and to register please visit the training website or contact Brittany Nickolay, Montana State University Police at 406-994-5082.
Funding is available for those schools interested in training on the Threat Assessment and Intervention process. Please contact Michele Henson for more details. For more information on Threat Assessment and Interventions and other school violence prevention strategies, please visit the OPI’s School Violence Prevention website.
