Superintendent Arntzen Applauds Return of Transparency to Conservation Easement Process
HELENA - Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen applauds Senator Keith Regier, the Montana Legislature, and Governor Gianforte on the passage and signing of SB 115. The legislation returns transparency and long-standing oversight capacity of Montana’s constitutionally elected Land Board to review Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks’ purchase of sizeable conservation easements. According to the bill, the approval of the Board of Land Commissioners is required regarding conservation easements for land or water acquisitions involving more than $1 million in state funds.
“As a publicly elected land board commissioner, for the past four years, I have consistently advocated for Land Board meetings to be transparent and accessible to the public. Montanan’s deserve every opportunity to engage in the public process,” said Superintendent Arntzen. “The interests of all Montana landowners will continue to be preserved for future generations.”
