Big Idea #1 - Eight Quick Checks for Understanding

Formative assessment is an effective way to check student understanding, as well as enhance it. Jay  McTighe has come up with eight ways to check student understanding that can be used in a remote learning environment or in the classroom. The ways range from a simple thumbs up/thumbs down approach to having the students teach a concept themselves. Read the Edutopia article to learn more about the eight quick ways to check student understanding.

Big Idea #2 - Student Privacy Communications Toolkit

Check out this great new student data privacy resource for schools, districts and educators!

What is it?The Student Privacy Communications Toolkit provides an overview of student data privacy concepts and recommendations on how to communicate these concepts to others. It also includes template forms for implementing a privacy framework.

Who made it? – A Washington DC based non-profit group called  Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) that works with education lawyers, legislators, and state educational agencies and school administrators to improve understanding of privacy issues, requirements, and implementation.

Why is it important? – This is one of the most concise and useful student privacy resources available. It is an excellent source for student data privacy information for educators and it is something that we can and should be using as a guidepost for protecting student privacy.
