The Montana Historical Society has a new hands-on-history footlocker, Discover Lewis and Clark. The footlocker traces their expedition through Montana and their encounters with American Indians. Visit the society's website for more information about the new footlocker.
To support your students with reading informational text, take the Hub course “Supporting Readers with Informational Texts.” This course is a reading methods course for any teacher who wishes to deepen students' comprehension and engagement with challenging informational text. The course will teach you how to help any reader by modifying lesson structure, teaching and modeling comprehension strategies, and employing fix-up strategies when comprehension breaks down. It features the Montana Historical Society’s wonderful history book, Stories of the Land.
A new report from the Thomas B. Fordham Institute confirms some concerns with online resources. “Reviewers evaluated more than 300 resources from three online platforms—ReadWriteThink, Share My Lesson, and Teachers Pay Teachers—for alignment to the Common Core State Standards and overall quality. Most of the materials, 64 percent, received an overall rating of very poor or mediocre.” Check out our vetted, Smarter Balanced Digital Library resources created with the help of Montana educators and available for free to all Montana teachers. For science, visit the OpenSciEd units for science. All units were independently reviewed by Achieve's Science Peer Review Panel and are listed as examples of quality materials on the nextgenscience.org website. Read more here.
