Montana Natural Heritage Program has a new website!
Hey Librarians! Would you like a refresher on the programs available through Lifelong Learning? Does your library have new employees who might not know about the lifelong learning resources available through the state library?
Contact Bobbi to set up a Zoom meeting. We can virtually visit during an all staff meeting, or we can set something up on a smaller scale for a personal virtual tour of the program.
Please use this survey of interest to let us know if you are interested in a trunk in your library to better serve your blind and low vision patrons of all ages. This survey describes the items that would be included, and offers space to make suggestions.
Libraries Partnering with Public Health – Check it out
|
To help bridge the divide and improve healthcare access for underserved and rural areas, libraries are increasingly turning to telehealth options such as access to more technology, high-speed internet and private spaces for telehealth visits. Offering telehealth services requires some pre-planning, good partnership with healthcare providers and a bit of funding, and in return can help reduce the problem of inaccessibility for some and improve health outcomes in your communities.
Options include using a standalone telehealth kiosk or, for a less capital-intensive option, retrofitting a study room or even a closet with sound-proofing, lighting and a computer with a high-resolution camera.
Recently, the Missoula Public Library placed a new telehealth pod for residents to access cost-effective pediatric care. Parents can contact pediatricians in a private, quiet environment at times that are more convenient for them without the worry of an expensive bill. This recent collaboration signals the potential of Montana libraries to consider telehealth options for residents in need. For additional information, Mountain Pacific Quality Health Foundation created a segment highlighting how a public library in Goshen County WY is offering public access to telehealth technology and space in rural Wyoming, to try to increase access to needed medical and behavior health.

MLN Virtual Programming Presents: Safety During Montana Smoke and Wildfire Events
 |
|
Montana's wildfire smoke seasons are getting longer and more pervasive. Learn about the health risks of wildfire smoke, why indoor air can be more unhealthy than outdoor air and how to protect your home if there are fires in your area.
Mary Anderson served as a school counselor for over thirty years. When she retired she found that although she left public education, the educator in her was still alive and well. As wildfire smoke coordinator, she works with emergency responders, health departments, the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Environmental Quality and several non-government organizations to develop educational materials and a response network that is as aware of the dangers of wildfire smoke as the dangers of wildfires themselves.
