Workflows Sirsi Connections Update
We have a quick update about yesterday's Symphony Workflows and SIP connectivity issues. We have not received any reports of issues today and from what we can test, it looks like the issue is resolved.
As far as we and SirsiDynix can determine, the problem was with a large Internet Service Provider (ISP) somewhere in the western United States. It is likely that a Domain Name Server (DNS) was the issue. DNS servers are sort of phonebooks that direct connections around the internet, and they work as a large network. So if your local ISP was routing through that other ISP's DNS, it suddenly just could not find our SirsiDynix Symphony server, even though there were no issues with the server itself.
Unfortunately, this was not something we or SirsiDynix could resolve because wherever the actual routing problem existed was entirely out of our control. Many other SirsiDynix libraries were also affected, and SD was monitoring the situation for any other problems that might arise. The problem looked to be resolving late yesterday afternoon, but we continued to monitor to make sure everything on our server was behaving as expected.
If you are still experiencing issues, please feel free to open a ticket. If you are being affected by a DNS problem, we might not be able to fix anything directly but we can help you communicate with your ISP about what exactly the issue is.
Thank you to all the librarians that reached out to let us know you were experiencing issues.
Remember, if you used Offline Mode, log into Workflows with the same computer as soon as you can so the offline transactions will get uploaded.
