Cataloging Book Club Kits
For libraries offering book club kits to patrons, we have added an Item Category 1 of BOOKCLUB. This will help us better pull out book club items for statistics, lists, and displays. If you would like your book club items updated to use this Item Category, please open a help desk ticket.
Please review our updated help article for Cataloging Book Club Kits. Reminders about cataloging book club kits:
- Kits should be on their own record separate from the record for the print book
- OCLC numbers and ISBNs should be removed from the book club kit record
- Add a 007 tag for the kit
-
Add series and subject heading for the kit
Not removing OCLC numbers and ISBNs cause overlay and matching issues for all MSC libraries. Records without a 007 tag will cause inconsistent display of icons in Enterprise for patrons placing holds.
We have added two new BCA reports to help with maintaining Book Club Kit items and bib records. These reports can be found in Shared Reports > Cataloging > Catalog Error Reports:
- Book Club Kit Items with ISBNs
- Book Club Kit Items with No 007
These two reports are currently based on a mix of item record policies so may include some unexpected items. BCA report results will become more accurate as all MSC libraries elect to use Item Cat 1 BOOKCLUB.
Item Display Order in WorkFlows
One of the newest features that came with Workflows 4.1, is the ability to sort by groups in the Item Search wizards. In past versions of Workflows, if you were in a sharing group or branch system and you didn’t own the item, the rest of the group’s items would appear grouped randomly in the list. Now with the addition of the group sort, your library group should always appear at the top regardless of whether your library owns a copy or not.
This feature has been set in the property files for any library that belongs to a sharing group, however, you may need to adjust your property settings to make this feature available. To do this:
- Right-click on the Item Search and Display wizard and open the Properties menu.
- Choose the Helpers tab and select the Configure button next to Configure Options for Item Search. This will open the pop-up menu illustrated below.
-
Make sure that the Consortium Group radio button is selected under the Order of Consortium Group subheading.
