Montana Geospatial Information Act (MGIA) Revenue & FY2025 Grants Update
The Montana State Library is tracking significantly declining revenue in the fees collected for recording documents used to fund geospatial coordination and grants in Montana. Over the last eighteen months, we have received some of the lowest monthly revenue collections since the act was established in 2005 and revenue is not showing signs of rebounding. County Land Information Accounts will see similar decline in fees collected. Explore the MGIA code annotated. We had hoped that the reporting was in error, but that does not seem to be the case. As a result, we are taking steps to tighten our belts so that we can operate with reduced cashflows.
As a result, we have made the difficult decision to not award FY 2025 Montana Geospatial Information Act grants. This decision does not affect the FY2022, FY2023, and FY2024 grants already awarded. These actions will help us retain necessary cash in the account, though spending will be far below spending authority. The Montana State Library, with advice from the Council, will start to work on developing the Montana Geospatial Plan this summer. The next MGIA Council Meeting is currently scheduled for July 11, 2024.
Thank you for your understanding and support. As always, please let me know if you have questions.
