Free Grant Writing Seminar Series
The Montana State Library's MGIA Grant Program is pleased to announce an upcoming Grant Writing Seminar Series, designed to help future applicants prepare their grant project proposals.
If you are considering applying for a FY2025 MGIA Grant, we strongly recommend getting started ASAP, working with relevant MSDI Theme Leads, attending one of the two virtual seminars, & getting scheduled for an accompanying "office hours" training!
MGIA Grant Writing Seminar #1: - Monday, November 27, 2023 - 10a - 3p - Hosted Virtually via Zoom - Registration is required, register below! - No Cost - Recommended Attendees: Those who are eligible to submit an MGIA grant proposal, project partners, and/or firms working with potential grantees.
Developing Your Grant Project Proposal | "Virtual Office Hours Series #1" Participants of the MGIA Grant Writing Seminar #1 will be able to schedule a one-hour block of time with the facilitator to start developing their proposals. One session per applicant. - Office Hours will fall on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday the week of 12/18/2023. - Registration will open after completion of the webinar, limited availability!
Join us to learn more about the nuts & bolts of grant proposal writing, writing for clarity, & the MGIA Grant Program! The Grant Writing Seminar will be offered in November & January. The seminar will cover the following topics:
- MGIA Grant Program Overview
- Readiness - Scoping Your Project
- Developing Your Scope
- Establishing a Timeline
- Examining Technical Feasibility
- Budget
- Understanding Project Relevance – Benefits and Beneficiaries
- Project Management
- Working with Hired Consultants
- Cohesive Writing
In addition, seminar attendees will have the opportunity to attend Developing Your Grant Project Proposal, "virtual office hours," specialized training, with the facilitator.

Developing Your Grant Project Proposal | "Virtual Office Hours Series #2" Participants of MGIA Grant Writing Webinar #2 will be able to schedule a one-hour block of time with the facilitator to finalize & put the finishing touches on their grant proposals. One session per applicant. - Office Hours will fall on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday the week of 2/5/2024. - Registration will open after completion of the webinar, limited availability!
Grant Writing Seminar Facilitators:
Janet Cornish, Community Development Services of Montana Subscribing to the notion that strong and viable organizations combined with effective programs create stronger communities, Janet works with government agencies, non-profits, and other publicly oriented entities to define, structure and fund their efforts. She presents seminars, classes and workshops in grant proposal writing, technical and professional communication and non-profit management, and has been a member of the adjunct faculty at Montana Tech for more than 30 years.
Erin Fashoway, Montana GIS Coordinator Erin serves as Montana’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator with the Montana State Library. She works to coordinate GIS functions/activities within Montana across local, state, tribal, and federal government as well as private, nonprofit, and universities. Erin is also the MGIA Grant Program Administrator.
