Do you do storytimes at your library? Are you looking for new ways to jazz up your program, or just want to learn more about early literacy? If so, please consider applying for the Supercharged Storytime Winter Learning Cohort! Led by Holly Fladager from the Sheridan County Library and Amelea Kim from the Montana State Library, this is an online learning cohort opportunity, where a small group of us will go through the Supercharged Storytime online course from Webjunction, and then discuss what we learn through online meetings. Here are some details:
What is the Supercharged Storytime Webjunction Course?
A self-paced online course that consists of six modules that provides training in how to intentionally apply research-based practices to boost early literacy in young children attending library storytime. Each module takes about an average of 1.5 hours to complete. You can read more about the project on the Supercharged Storytimes Webjunction webpage.
How is the Winter Learning Cohort structured?
Participants will work through the self-paced online course materials on their own time. The cohort will then meet online every two weeks to discuss the module as a group, with a total of six online discussion sessions. Each online discussion session will be an hour. We may end early, depending on discussion, but we will never go over an hour.
Who can apply to participate?
Anyone who does storytime! Whether you have 1 day or 25 years of experience, we welcome anyone who is interested in this topic to join us. Everyone has something to share and learn from each other.
Will I receive MSL CE Credit for this?
Yes, you can receive 15 hours of CE credit for participating in this course. For each module, you can earn 1.5 CE credit for the self-paced work, and 1 CE credit for participating in the online discussion. This training is also eligible for OPI credit.
When is this scheduled for?
You will have 2 weeks to complete each self-paced module, and below are the dates for the online discussion meetings. All meetings will be on Tuesdays from 1 - 2 pm on the following dates: 1/9, 1/23, 2/6, 2/20, 3/5, 3/19
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the Supercharged Storytime Application by September 22nd. We will notify applicants by September 29th!
If anyone in your community is interested in remote work opportunities, please share the above flyers with them. You can find out more about these opportunities at the following webpages:
