An incorrect call number analytic (the volume number) in an item record can affect all patrons placing holds on items in Enterprise. If the call number analytic is entered incorrectly, it will cause duplicate entries or a blank in the holds dropdown menu even if your library is not listed in the results list.
You can tell if an call number includes an analytic if you see a "|Z" in the call number field. This "|Z" gets automatically added when you enter a correctly formatted volume number in the call number field. The MSC has standardized how this gets entered into Workflows to avoid errors. A call number with a volume number included should have a V followed by a period, a space, and then the number and the "|Z" will be automatically created when you click save so it should look like this in Workflows: "YCM TAKAYA FRUITS|ZV. 1" but it will display in Enterprise as "YCM TAKAYA FRUITS V. 1."
