Yellowstone National Park Films and Video
This week we completed the upload of two mid 20th-century films provided by Yellowstone National Park Heritage and Research Center. The first is a circa-1950 film called The Geysers, Mudpots, and Pools of Mysterious Yellowstone. The other is called A Trip Around Yellowstone - please note that this film has no sound. These two films are the first video we have uploaded, and we are excited about the possibility of more film in the future.
We have a huge new batch of images to share with you, from the collections of the Montana Historical Society. This collection of images now totals over 9000! The 361 new images cover a wide variety of topics. There are images of the driving of the Last Spike of the Northern Pacific Railroad at Gold Creek, Montana on September 8, 1883. One of these is shared below - a Crow Indian Council held at the spot. There are a number of images of industrial scale mining and smelting facilities under construction, as well as Montana schools. There are portraits of individuals, natural landscapes, and city scenes. These new images are a wonderful addition to one of the most popular collections on our site.
We hope you will take a look at this great selection of Montana History:

For those of you attending the 2023 MLA Conference in Billings, please consider attending the session on Friday, April 14th from 11:15 - 12:15 with Diane Sun, the National Student Poet for the West. Diane will share her journey to poetry and exercises that will engage other youth in the form. This is a great session for anyone looking to engage more with teens in their community, especially through poetry and creative activities.
Diane Sun is a senior at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington, but she was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She is the president and founder of her school’s art and literary publication, The Interlake Review, as well as the philosophy club. When she’s not writing, she’s debating, either for her school or as a member of the national team. When she’s not debating, she’s writing, merging the (terrifying) passage of time, the intersection of femininity and nature, and her love of her Chinese culture and community in a blend of tea leaves and late nights.
