Dear Colleagues,
The first week of the 68th Legislative session is wrapping up and it is off to a busy start.
We had a very positive hearing with the House State Administration Committee for our bill to reauthorize public library state aid. I want to thank Alissa Wolenetz, Joy Bridwell, and Mitch Grady for their compelling testimony about the importance of this funding.
The State Employee Pay Plan also had a very positive hearing with significant testimony about the importance of the pay plan to recruiting and retaining high quality state employees. No one opposed the bill in the hearing.
I have linked handouts below for two of our agency bills.
A summary of the bills we are actively engaged on follows.
HB 2: General Appropriations Act State Library Budget Hearing February 7, 2023
HB 4: Appropriations by budget amendment Heard January 3, 2023, awaiting executive action (Includes MTNHP grant funding)
HB 13: State Employee Pay Plan and revising laws governing state employees Heard January 3, 2023, awaiting executive action
HB 91: Revise laws related to public library state aid Heard January 4, 2023, awaiting executive action
SB60: Establish enterprise fund for Montana spatial real time network (S) Referred to Committee -- (S) State Administration, awaiting hearing date
LC 3451: Generally revise library laws Draft to Requester for Review (Bill to amend MLIA and NRIS statutes)
There a several more bill draft titles that we are monitoring and, as we work with legislators and as language becomes available, we will coordinate with the Governor’s Office and stakeholders to determine a position or whether the State Library should provide additional information.
Have a great week,
Jennie
