Slow Down, Yield, and Move Over for Emergency Vehicles
To help keep emergency vehicles and highway workers safe, it's important to follow Montana's "Yield -- Slow Down -- Move Over Act". Slowing down, yielding and moving over not only protect lives but also help you avoid financial penalties. Keep reading for reminders about the law.
"Yield -- Slow Down -- Move Over Act" Reminders

Slow Down: Reduce your speed when approaching stationary emergency or law enforcement vehicles with flashing lights.

On interstates, slow down by 20 MPH.

On state highways or county roads, slow down by 30 MPH.

On other roads, slow to half of the posted speed limit if you can't move over.

Move Over: If it's safe, change lanes to avoid driving next to stationary emergency or law enforcement vehicles.

Proceed with Caution: If you can't change lanes, significantly reduce your speed and proceed with extreme caution.
