ENA Adopts Resolution Supporting Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (PECCs) in Every ED
The ENA voted overwhelmingly in favor (95%) of adopting Resolution GA25-02A: Designation of a Nurse PECC in Every Emergency Department (ED). The vote, held during ENA’s General Assembly in New Orleans, reflects the association’s strong commitment to advancing Pediatric Readiness nationwide and underscores the essential role of PECCs in emergency care.
Why PECCs Matter for Pediatric Readiness
- Enhanced preparedness: PECCs ensure EDs have the right policies, equipment, and training to care for children.
- Higher Pediatric Readiness: Studies show EDs with designated PECCs consistently score higher on Pediatric Readiness assessments.
- Better outcomes for kids: PECCs drive higher Pediatric Readiness scores, and high Pediatric Readiness scores are associated with improved outcomes.

2026 EMSC NPRQI Collaborative
The EMSC Program is launching the next cohort of the National Pediatric Readiness Quality Initiative (NPRQI) Collaborative (formerly known as the Pediatric Readiness Quality Collaborative or PRQC). This FREE collaborative will help ED-based teams develop or strengthen existing pediatric QI plans and, in doing so, help them improve their Pediatric Readiness — just in time for the 2026 National Pediatric Readiness Project Assessment!
The collaborative kicks off in January and is designed specifically for smaller EDs. Participating sites will gain access to NPRQI, a user-friendly platform that tracks 28 pediatric quality metrics, along with expert QI coaching, tailored intervention bundles, and practical tools to support initiatives in head trauma, pain assessment, suicide screening and management, and abnormal vital signs reassessment.
