It’s that time of the year again! We are asking for your feedback to our State WIC office via the annual Customer Service Survey. This survey provides valuable feedback to the State WIC office to help ensure that we are meeting the needs of our local agencies. In the past this feedback has helped us justify funding increases, technology advancements and so much more.
The survey can be completed by all staff members at our local agencies and is completely anonymous. We will have the survey available for the next couple of months and will send out reminders via our weekly newsletter.

We are inviting anyone who is part of the work of Montana’s Child Welfare System to participate in a Statewide Assessment Survey, as part of Child and Family Service Division’s Child and Family Services Review (CFSR), which we are in the midst of, currently. The CFSR process has two phases: the first is the Statewide Assessment, and the second is the onsite Federal Case Review, which will take place in Billings, Great Falls and Missoula, this August 2025.
This Statewide Assessment Survey allows all CFSD staff, stakeholders, parents, youth, foster/adoptive/guardianship families and others to share their experiences with Montana’s Child Welfare System; so that we can enable the Federal Children’s Bureau to: (1) determine Montana’s conformity with federal child welfare requirements; (2) learn about the experiences of children, youth, and families receiving child welfare services in Montana; and (3) assist Montana in enhancing their capacity to help children and families achieve positive outcomes.
Your feedback is valuable to the current and future work of Montana’s child welfare system to improve safety, permanency, and well-being outcomes for children and families. This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey closes on March 18, 2025, 5pm.

Risk Code 359: Recent Major Surgery, Physical Trauma, Burns
Defined as major surgery, physical trauma or burns severe enough to compromise nutritional status.
Any occurrence:
- Within the past two (≤2) months may be self-reported.
- More than two (>2) months previous must have the continued need for nutritional support diagnosed by a physician or HCP working under the orders of a physician.
Example: This risk code must be added to a postpartum woman’s certification if the delivery was by c-section.
What WIC Can Do:
- Provide education and supplemental food that can help ensure that the individual is in good nutritional health prior to the surgery, physical trauma, or burn.
- Assure vitamin and mineral intakes meet RDAs.
- Assure that energy and protein intake preserve lean muscle mass and body weight.
- Recommend the participant speaks with their HCP about a multivitamin supplement when diet alone cannot meet the RDAs for vitamins and minerals.
- Refer to community resources for smoking cessation, support groups, food assistance, and safe living environments.
- Refer to a lactation educator if having trouble breastfeeding following a c-section.
