Health in the 406

March is National Kidney Month

  • More than 1 in 7 adults in the United States (US) have chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is estimated that 90% of adults with CKD do not know they have it.
  • Eighteen percent of hospitalizations and 3% of emergency department (ED) visits in Montana involve a person with chronic kidney disease. People with diabetes, hypertension, or both have an increased risk of CKD.
  • Early stages of chronic kidney disease often begin without noticeable symptoms, so knowing your risk is important. Take a Minute for your Kidneys and answer a few simple questions to know if you are at risk of CKD.
