Health in the 406

National Nutrition Month

  • Since 1974, the WIC program has been one of the most successful and cost-effective public health nutrition programs in the United States. In 2023, WIC provided an estimated $4.0M in fruit and vegetable benefits to about 11,000 Montana WIC participants.
  • The WIC food packages are based on scientific evidence and provide essential nutrients at critical times for healthy growth and development. In 2021, a higher fruit and vegetable benefit led to WIC participants reporting an increase in consumption of fruit and vegetables.
