WIC will be celebrating 50 years starting in January 2024. We highly encourage all local agencies to participate in this campaign and to build the 50th anniversary into their outreach and social media campaigns. NWA has created toolkits that they will release each month to share outreach and social media content. The State office will include these toolkits in the newsletter each month as well as provide a suite of outreach tools through Elearn. Once we have posted materials to Elearn, we will notify local agencies through the newsletter. Please see the January toolkit below.
January 50th Anniversary Toolkit
This toolkit includes a video about the first WIC clinic in Pineville, KY, social media graphics, and sample social media post language. Join us in amplifying the celebration of WIC's 50th anniversary and all of its amazing impacts by sharing this content with your communities! PLUS, you can now check out our new WIC 50th anniversary website at WIC50th.nwica.org [default.salsalabs.org] where you can find videos, resources, and other information throughout 2024!
Please note: This toolkit content and website are meant to be shared in January 2024 so please hold on sharing publicly until the new year!

Please use the brand guide created by NWA to download 50th Anniversary logos and fonts. Local agencies should use this guide to create content over the next year as WIC celebrates 50 years! The State office will be creating and sharing a lot of content that local agencies can use, however, if local agencies are creating their own content, please remember to send proofs for approval to the Outreach Coordinator, Alex Bostrom.

Risk Code 352A Infectious Diseases – Acute
Defined as a disease which is characterized by a single or repeated episode of relatively rapid onset and short duration. Infection diseases come from bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi and spread directly or indirectly from person to person.
The infectious disease must be present within the past six months, and diagnosed, documented, or reported by a physician or someone working under a physician’s orders, or as self-reported by participant/caregiver.
For a list of infectious diseases, please click here: Infectious Diseases Acute
*Nutritional status must be affected when assigning this risk factor.
Examples:
Would not assign risk code: A participant reports they recently had the flu but there was no major impact on diet or health.
Would assign risk code: A caregiver reports their baby had RSV and needed a tube feed.
What WIC Can Do:
- WIC can improve the management of acute infectious diseases through WIC foods, nutrition education, and referrals to community resources.
- Encourage sufficient calorie intake.
- Recommend the Dietary Guidelines to ensure healthy eating patterns.
- Provide suggestions to address poor appetite.
- Provide education on safe food handling and storage practices.
