How long does the Continuing Resolution (CR) Provide Funds?
- WIC funding provided by the Continuing Resolution passed by Congress on September 30, 2023 allows the program to conduct business as usual for 45 days or until November 17, 2023
-
How does the CR impact cash value benefit (CVB) levels?
- The CR provides authority to maintain CVB issuance at the higher, NASEM-recommended levels. We are seeking additional information from USDA about the duration of higher benefit levels.
-
At this time, does the CR provide all of the WIC funding needs?
- It allows WIC to spend down funds at the rate necessary to support participation.
-
What are the next steps for Congress to provide FY24 funding?
- Congress must pass a federal budget to ensure the government can be funded through the end of FY24 in September 2024.
-
Why does WIC need additional investment from Congress?
- With increasing participation rates, it’s critical that WIC is fully funded to avoid any disruption in services to current participants and/or the implementation of waiting lists for the first time in 30 years.

As a reminder, posters will be shipped to WIC clinics for the MCHBG needs assessment. We encourage all clinics to hang up the posters and to encourage Montana families to complete the 4-question survey using the QR code on the posters. This information will be coming from the Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities. They will be sending postcards to current WIC families at the beginning of November. |
