Human Papillomavirus (PHV)

Health in the 406

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus that is spread by skin-to-skin contact and can cause cancer later in life.
  • In the U.S. approximately 36,000 people are affected by a cancer caused by an HPV infection; however, HPV vaccination and regular cervical cancer screening tests can reduce the risk of cancer.
  • HPV vaccination provides safe, effective, and lasting protection against the HPV infections that most commonly cause cancer.
