Quit Smoking with Thousands During the Great American Smoke Out

  • More than 130,000 Montana adults currently smoke cigarettes, including 40% of American Indian adults, and each year, 1600 Montanans die from smoking-related illness.
  • Quitting smoking is beneficial at any age and the body begins repairing itself almost immediately. Two weeks to three months after quitting, risk of heart attack begins to drop and lung function begins to improve and one year after quitting, risk of coronary heart disease cuts to half that of smokers.
  • The Great American Smoke Out, occurring on November 17th, challenges people who smoke to give up smoking for one day as a first step toward quitting for good and living a healthy, smoke-free life.
